Winter is a tough season for tractors. A long stay in storage can cause important components to rust or deteriorate, while the cold temperatures outdoors can result in lowered engine performance and productivity. Don’t start the spring season on a bad foot! Make sure to read over our handy tractor maintenance guide below to ensure you’re ready for the upcoming season.

Lube Moving Parts

Disuse can be difficult on machinery. Leftover dirt and residue that’s built up are likely to settle during this time, creating friction between important pieces of moving equipment. To ensure your tractor is ready for the spring season, take a few moments to apply lubricant to all of your model’s important moving parts, such as the bearings, hitch, and any attachments or implements you have installed. Giving your tractor a good scrub from top to bottom before you begin applying your lubricant can also help remove dirt and grime and help your equipment move more smoothly.

Flush Fluids

Before you hit the fields with your tractor, be sure to give all of your important engine fluids a very careful examination. Not only should colors be bright and clear, but there shouldn’t be any signs of debris or condensation in the reservoirs. If you do notice these issues, we recommend flushing and replacing the fluids as quickly as possible. The exception to this rule is your fuel and engine oil reservoirs. Regardless of the state of the fluids, you’ll want to have them flushed completely, as both fluids are sensitive to disuse and cold temperatures.
